Would your Section or Group like to decorate a Christmas tree in a National Trust hall this winter?

Nunnington Hall is bringing back Nature’s Noel, its greener take on Christmas, after a great response last year. Local groups, charities and schools are invited to decorate one of over 20 Christmas trees on the theme of caring for the planet and protecting the natural world. The trees will be on display to visitors from Thursday to Sunday, 19 November to 20 December 2026.

It’s a lovely project for a Section. Young people can design and make the decorations over a few weeks, then go and put them on the tree themselves. Nunnington will also give successful groups a free entry pass to visit the hall for inspiration, and they’d love to see decorations inspired by the hall, its gardens or its collection.

A few rules to know before you apply:

  • All decorations must be made from natural, recycled or upcycled materials.
  • No glitter or loose parts, to protect the historic rooms.
  • No fresh food, flowers or foliage. Dried flowers may be allowed with prior approval.
  • Battery-powered lights only.
  • Don’t use anything of personal or sentimental value.

Decorating takes place on 11, 12 or 13 November between 11am and 2pm, so you’ll need to commit to one of those dates. Trees and decorations can be collected on 21 December to take back and enjoy in your meeting place.

Trees are limited and Nunnington expects a lot of interest, so apply early. Download the application form here, and email it to nunningtonhall@nationaltrust.org.uk. If you have any questions, contact Lizzie Smith at smith26471@gmail.com
