The York Scouts and Girlguides Engineering Challenge at the University of York was a brilliant day and definitely one to remember. From the start, there was a real buzz around the Exhibition Centre, with teams getting stuck into hands-on workshops led by university students. It was creative, busy and, most importantly, a lot of fun.
Throughout the day, Scouts and Guides took part in activities including audio engineering, robotics, bridge building and a model car challenge. Each base gave young people the chance to try something different, solve problems and work together. There was loads of enthusiasm, and it was great to see so many people fully getting involved.
One of the best things about the event was the level of innovation on show. Some teams came up with really clever ideas, whether that was improving their car designs, testing new ways to build structures, or adapting when things did not go to plan. There was loads of teamwork too, with everyone sharing ideas and helping each other.
Although the event was more about taking part than competing, there was still a real sense of achievement by the end. As well as having fun, young people probably learned quite a lot about engineering too.
A huge thank you to the University of York students, leaders and everyone who took part. It was a fantastic day.
