Recently, one of York’s very own, Rowan Ward, was given the King’s Scout Award which is the most esteemed Award that a young person achieve within the Scouts community. To make this achievement even more brilliant, Rowan is likely the youngest to ever win the King’s Scout Award in York and is also the first this year, a great cause for celebration! To earn this award, Rowan represented North Yorkshire Scouts in South Korea at the World Scout Jamboree, and the National Scouts Youth Forum to help with shaping future strategies for the Scouts. Rowan also became a member of the Larkin Jamboree Youth Media Team, completed her Duke of Edinburgh expedition walking 80km in the Yorkshire Moors, and has actively promoted international Scouting and top awards. From volunteering at Heslington since the age of 14 to now taking on the role of our District Youth Engagement Team Leader, Rowan is truly deserving of such a prestigious award. She continues to represent views of our young people in decision-making for the District. It seemed only fitting that Rowan was given the King’s Scout Award at Snowball Plantation where she has enjoyed many outdoor activities with the Scouts. Rowan has also been invited to Windsor Castle to meet with royalty and other award recipients, which will be a wonderful way of celebrating such an honourable Scouting achievement. Well done Rowan!
