SUMMARY:Cubs Football Tournament 2026
DESCRIPTION:Opportunity to show off your footy skills and represent your Cub Pack\, whilst having fun meeting other Cubs and volunteers.  Only 5-8 cubs needed per team so we are hoping that every pack in the District can enter.  Book your team with Charlotte and let her know who to send the invoice to for payment of the entry fee (£20).  Please arrive at the venue 1.30\, ready to start ASAP.  Bring lunch\, water\, waterproof coat and perhaps something to sit on whilst waiting between games.  Some of our young people selected from North Yorkshire to take part in a tour of Europe in July 2027 might have a stall to buy some treats\, so bring some cash.  Parents can stay to cheer on the teams.

SUMMARY:City of York Scouts Events Team Launch
DESCRIPTION:Come along to find out how our District Events work and how you can get involved. We are amalgamating our City of York Scouts Events Team and the York Activity Support Team to form one unified City of York Scouts Events Team. By bringing together their experience\, skills and enthusiasm\, the team will be better placed to plan and support engaging events for Scouting across York.\n\nIt is hoped that the new team will meet regularly to plan events and that anyone who would like to take the lead on an event will have the opportunity to do so. This will help to share responsibility more widely\, rather than relying on the same people each time.\n\nTo launch the new team\, we are meeting in The Cabin at York Scout Activity Centre from 7.30pm. Please feel free to come along and meet the team.  At the meeting\, you will find out what we already have planned\, discuss what still needs to be organised over the next few months for Scouting in York\, and learn how you can help.  We would be delighted to see you.

SUMMARY:Chess Competition 2026
DESCRIPTION:These championships are open to any member of City of York Scouts who are already able to play chess.  This gives young people an opportunity to have fun applying and developing their skills in games with others of a similar age.\n\nThere are planned to be 3 categories of competition aligned to age groups:\n\nJunior\nIntermediate\nSenior\n\nSpecific age groups\, plus start and finish times will be assigned to each category when we know participant numbers and their ages.\nWe will notify participants once the timings are decided.  We expect each competition category to take circa 2 hours\, with participants having a number of games.\nTo enter the championships every entrant must be familiar with the rules of chess.\nPlaying instruction will not be given but a ruling over disputed moves will.\nThe maximum amount of time to complete a game will be determined by the number of entrants in each category.\nThe outcome of each game will be determined using a predefined scoring system\, with the maximum score being achieved by Checkmate.\nSection Leaders do not need to accompany young people.  Parents are however encouraged to stay during the event and will have seats to relax while waiting for their young person (perhaps bring a book to read!).\nWe hope to provide tea and coffee for spectators\, but young people may want to bring their own snacks and a water bottle.\nIf parents are unable to stay they may consent to onsite Scout volunteers looking after their young person providing emergency contact details and support information is provided.
