York Scouts is part of the worldwide Scout Movement, supporting young people across the City of York to develop skills for life. Through adventure, challenge and teamwork, we help young people grow in confidence, resilience and independence—while having a lot of fun along the way.
We bring together volunteers, leaders and supporters from across the district to deliver high-quality Scouting experiences for children and young people aged 4–25. From camping and outdoor adventures to community projects and international opportunities, Scouting in York is about learning by doing.
What We Do
At York Scouts, young people take part in a wide range of activities designed to inspire and challenge. These include:
- Outdoor adventures such as camping, hiking and water activities
- Practical life skills including teamwork, leadership and problem-solving
- Creative and technical activities, from crafts to digital skills
- Community action and volunteering, giving back to our local area
All activities are age-appropriate and led by trained volunteers who are committed to creating safe, inclusive and supportive environments.
Our Volunteers
Everything we do is made possible by our dedicated volunteers. They come from all walks of life and give their time to support young people, organise events and keep Scouting thriving across York. Whether leading weekly meetings, helping behind the scenes, or supporting at district events, our volunteers are at the heart of York Scouts.
No prior Scouting experience is required—just enthusiasm, commitment and a desire to make a positive difference.
Our Impact
York Scouts plays an active role in the local community. Our groups regularly support community events, fundraising activities and local causes, while helping young people understand their role as responsible citizens.
